SOFTWARE BULLETIN
This bulletin describes operating characteristics and limitations implemented by the Master 4.50 software version.
This new version replaces all the previous versions and is required at least to take full advantage of the new Time-Code software version 1.07 with its improved features.
The jumping of the last two digits, introduced with software 4.40 is now corrected.
We have been able to reduce the "wake up" time of the A/D converter which allows instant switching from digital to analogical and by this slightly reduces the time when switching the unit on.
Version 4.40 introduced new the read out of the errors, produced by the record heads which lead to confusion how to interpret the values on display. This is now cleared and the displayed figures correspond to real values. Playback "P" and Record "R" head values are available in playback mode. In record mode only playback head values are measured and displayed.

Recording from a digital source through the AES-EBU bus, the sampling frequency (SF) of the STELLADAT will be in sync to the sources signal. The status display provides now an additional information for SF drift within sync tolerances. The indication "AES" (indicated under "Freq") signals that synchronization to the external source is okay. If "AES~" appears, a drift (+ / -) in the SF is detected (i.e. vary speed source)
Already the fastest machine when it comes to renumbering the STELLADAT gains intelligence with this software. Instead of renumbering all the start IDs, it is now recognizing faulty counting and will renumber only when other values then precedent PNO+1 is detected. It must, however, always start at the beginning with PNO 1. From there it speeds forward (~200x) to every next PNO, checks the value and either overwrights or speeds further forward until the end of the tape or an END-ID is detected.
Note:
In this function is now BLANK SEARCH switched off automatically.
Start ID marking: In record mode only a pressing of the REC key initiates the writing of a start ID which makes this operation available on an easy to find button. It is, therefore, not needed to assign this function to the User Key anymore, although it is still possible to do so.
Tape protection: The function of pulling the tape into the cassette (like the first move when pressing "Eject") is now available when pressing the STOP key in stop mode only.
The delay between "stop" and "record" is now shortened to below 1 second except for one specific configuration. When working with Time-Code set to "Rec run" where a perfect synchronization is essential to garantee perfect continuity of the code, the machine needs a certain time before going into record.
Note:
This improvement has as a consequence that the last 1 second of your preceding take may be overwritten. It is, therefore recommended to stay about 2 second in record mode after the last recorded signal. Please let us know if this is a serious limitation.
Headphone monitoring: The Input signal is now constantly available also during the delay between pushing the REC key and start of recording.
Menu discharge: Machines without TC installation do not have the TC related counters available anymore (TC time and user bits).
TC setting: It is now possible to validate a new TC address in the generator by pressing the SET key also when rec run is preset in the machine. With earlier versions it was necessary to return to the main menu to make it happen.
The checksum of the software version 4.51 is 5a8fe7
